The Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi (FUAM), Dr Ibrahim Sulu- Gambari has promised to use his connection and experience to uplift the status of the university and develop it to world class institution. Dr. Sulu-Gambari, who is the Emir of Ilorin, made the promise recently while receiving principal officers of the university who paid him a courtesy visit in his palace. The team was led to the palace by the Vice Chancellor; Prof Emmanuel Kucha, Deputy Vice chancellor Admin, Prof. Richard Kimber, Deputy Vice chancellor Academic, Prof John Ayoade and the Bursar, Mr. Samuel Lannah.
Others on the entourage include University Librarian, Dr Akobundo Ugeh, Deputy Registrar, Dr Victor Ben, Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Fanafa and Executive Assistant to the VC, Isaac Asember. Welcoming the delegates, Sulu- Gambari thanked the VC and his team for the visit despite the poor conditions of road from Markudi to Ilorin. He described the visit to his palace as a mark of honour, adding that the visit would also spurn him to contribute his quota to the development of the university.
The Chancellor promised to repeat what he did to Nnamidi Azikwe University, Akwa, Anambra state when he was the chancellor to the Federal University of Agriculture, Markudi. The Emir said that it was when he was the chancellor of Nnamdi Azikwe University that a female hostel was built and massive improvement on the infrastructural development was recorded.
The emir described his appointment as a call for service and promised to bring his experience to bear in his new assignment. He promised the Vice Chancellor that he will visit the university immediately after the Ramadan fasting. Earlier, in his address, the VC, Prof. Kucha told the royal father that the team was in Ilorin to congratulate him on his recent appointment as Chancellor of the university.
He thanked God for the Emir’s appointment because of his antecedent, saying that the university would gain a lot from the Chancellor goodwill. The VC later presented the letter of appointment collected from the Federal Ministry of Education to the Emir as well as letter of congratulation from the university.
