For the quick intervention of elderly residents of Allen Avenue area of Lagos State two youth would have been set ablaze over an alleged car theft. Sources said they were apprehended on Sunday when they cajoled a landlord that they wanted to take possession of an apartment at No, 45, Adeleke Street, Allen Avenue.
One of the suspects was said to have followed the Landlord inside to inspect the vacant apartment while the other waited outside the compound. It was gathered that the one outside was busy attempting to break into one of the vehicle parked outside the compound unknown to him that a guard was watching him. The guard had raised the alarm which attracted the landlord and other residents to the scene.
At that point the one that was inside the compound with the landlord had escaped through the fence but the one who was outside was apprehended. The suspect was subjected to severe beating and irate youths had hung a tyre on him and were ready to set him ablaze This was prevented by some elderly ones who were at the scene. “The elders in the community stopped them because two wrongs cannot make a right and no responsible community would allow jungle justice. That is why we handed him over to the police at Area ‘F’ Command,” a source said.
