Police detectives attached to Ilese Division, Ijebu Ode of Oyo State Command have arrested two persons Racheal John, and Joy Atunramu,of Egbe Street, Ijebu Ode, for allegedly stealing a 9- month- old baby. Police said the baby was stolen from her mother’s neighbor shop at the Old Tollgate Ijebu Ode on Wednesday afternoon.
Making this know was the police spokesman Oyo state Olumuyiwa Adejobi who said the police were informed of the incident by the mother of the baby, same date at about 6.30 when she noticed that the baby was nowhere to be found.
According to him, the police detectives immediately swung into action, and traced the suspect to Ogbere, Ijebu area,on a tip off, where she was arrested.
It’s was gathered that the suspect had a quarrel with the mother of the baby earlier before the baby was stolen adding that the suspect had in a letter addressed to the mother to deal with the mother of the baby.
Adejobi in a press release explained that “Though, initially, the mother didn’t know who actually stole the baby, neighbors and some eye witnesses, who saw the suspect with the baby (who was tactically taken away by Joy Atunramu on the instruction of the first suspect) intimated the mother and the police detectives before the arrest of the suspects.
“It was also gathered that the suspect allegedly demanded for the sum of N2,000,000 before the baby would be release. Adejobi explained that the Commissioner of Police Ogun State CP Val Ntomchukwu has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated without delay, and necessary action be taken for justice to prevail.
The Police Boss has also advised parents and guardians to always take good care of their children and wards to avoid cases of this nature.
