Police in Lagos have stepped up investigations to unravel the mystery behind the Monday killing of the Lagos state coordinator of The Lords Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries Ijesha, Lagos Pastor Chukwuemeka Akpokpo. Dependable source said the police are looking beyond robbery as it has expanded findings to know whether the killing was assassination because the robbers were reported to have ensured that the pastor was really dead before leaving the scene.
Our source said the command is not taking the news lightly as the Commissioner of Police Cornelius Aderanti has given a matching order to both the police Crack team and the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) to fasttract findings and apprehend the criminals. A Police source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said, “We are not going to conclude that it was an armed robbery attack.
We may not rule out assassination but on the other hand it may be robbery attack and he may have recorgnised one of his attackers. We have to expand our findings” Pastor Chukwuemeka Akpokpo was shot dead Monday afternoon by two gunmen operating in a commercial motorcycle (Okada). Sources said the Pastor was actually trailed to Diamond Bank near the Apple Junction, Amuwo Odofin area of the metropolis by the gunmen who shot him severally making sure that he died before they zoomed off from the scene. It was gathered that the hoodlums carted away with the N3million that he went to withdraw from the bank.
Indications were rife that the attack on the pastor may have been through an insider in either the bank or the church. This is because the deceased had already notified the bank of his intention before leaving the Church for the bank and had also made it known to his other brothers in the church.
A source in the church opined that the pastor may have been killed by those who are eyeing his position in the church as he was in charge of buildings in the church and keeping him off the way means an opportunity for another amongst those who are secretly canvassing for the position. Such a position according to our source was exclusively for those who are highly favoured by the General Overseer of the church, Pastor Lazarus Mouka.
