Sources said the assailants had invaded his residence where they overpowered him and tied his legs and hands before stabbing him to death. Sources said, news of the incident was conveyed to the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi who sent a three man fact finding delegation to Imo state.

The delegation our source said had arrived Owerri on Tuesday and immediately proceeded to the Imo State Commissioner of Police and the Department of State Security Services after which journalists were briefed on the outcome of the visit.

Members of the delegation comprised of NYSC Director of Corp Welfare and Inspectorate, Mr. Mike Ahile as head of the national delegation in the company of Head of Legal Unit, Bar. Ahmed Tijani Ibrahim; and Representative of the Director of Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa while those joining them from Imo state were the coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Abada Okpiroro and the state Public Relations Officer, Mr. Orunta Ugochukwu. Briefing newsmen shortly after the visits to the state commissioner of police and the DSS director, on behalf of the team from NYSC headquarters, Abuja, Mr. Ahile said the DG of NYSC has sent the delegation to ensure that state security operatives are in top gear to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder.

According to him, “We received news of sudden dead of the corp member serving here in Imo State and the Director General therefore decided to send this high power delegation to come to the state and see the heads of security agencies and to charge them to unravel the circumstances surrounding the murder of this corp member”

“As you all know, corp members are on national assignment and it is the responsibility of the state security agencies, community leaders and indeed the public to ensure their welfare, safety and their security” The delegates called on the security operatives in the state to leave no stone unturned in digging deep into the mystery behind the corper’s demise, the Director of Corp Welfare and Inspectorate said. “And so we are calling on the security agencies to ensure that they unravel the mystery behind the murderers of this corp member.

The NYSC would not tolerate the situation whereby young men and women serving their country are murdered in cold blood by mindless criminals and therefore we’re sure from the discussion we have had with the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command and the Director of State Security in Imo State would unravel the circumstances behind the dead” On the extent the state security operatives have gone in investigating the matter, Ahile said, “Already some arrests have been made; the NYSC is satisfied with the way and manner investigation is going on and we are sure that the criminals will soon be caught and brought to face the full wrath of the law.”

While informing that discussions are currently ongoing with family members of the decease who are already in Owerri for their son’s corpse, the head of the NYSC delegation from Abuja charged corp members to make good use of the security tips taught them while in NYSC orientation camp including being security conscious, not staying out at night, and avoiding going out alone. He further allayed fears among members giving assurance that with security operatives being on top of the matter the murderers of late Hope Akpanika Framtom will of certain be brought to book.
