Thirty four suspected criminals were yesterday paraded by the police Lagos State Command.
Commissioner of Police Lagos Fatai Owoseni who paraded them before newsmen at the command’s headquarters said they were arrested in different offence adding that the exercise was in continuation with the implementation of the command’s crime prevention strategies.
He said the command has embarked on rigorous patrols of the metropolis , enforcement of Lagos State traffic laws , raids of criminal hideouts and the execution of the ban on street trading and hawking. “
Between November 12, and 18 a total of 24 motorcycles were arrested at different locations for violating the Lagos State Traffic Law. In the same vein, 401 motorcycles were impounded, while 109 street traders/ hawkers were arrested.
“Similarly, 178 suspects were arrested during raids of criminals hideouts. On the whole, a total of 311 persons were arrested, out of which30 were screened out. While 281 were charged with various offences, 220 of them were convicted, while 61 were discharged.
Owoseni said during the period under review seven persons were arrested for robbery, 31, for cultism,3 for traffic robberies, two robbers died during the process, 8 arms and 12 ammunitions were recovered, one vehicle recovered and seven murder cases were recorded.
Owoseni said the ban on fireworks •Some of the suspects was still in force and warned Lagosians that those defaulting will be brought to book.
