Kogi State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it has intercepted 3,249.3kg Of Cannabis between January and October this year.
Commander of the Agency, Alhaji Idris Bello who made this known in Lokoja while parading seven suspects said the arrests were held for being in possession of the substance and other prohibited drugs.
Bello said that 3,113.1 kg of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were seized between January and August, this year while 136.2 kg were seized between September to date.
Of the seven suspects paraded was 20-year-old Lucky Ekeinde from Uzeba in Owan West Local Government area of Edo State who was arrested with 189 compressed blocks of cannabis weighing 126 kg neatly concealed in the boot of a Honda Accord with a Lagos state vehicle plate number AAA 845 CL.
Ekeinde who claimed to be an errand boy for the owner of the car and the consignment said the driver and the “Oga” escaped when they ran into the NDLEA men but he was caught.
Another suspect 35-year-old Timothy Wada from Ogane-Enugu in Dekina Local Government of Kogi was arrested with two wraps of cannabis and a pistol while Danladi Ibrahim, 30, suspected cannabis seller, was arrested in Idah, also in Kogi.
