Inter -Agency Collaboration Necessary In Crime Fighting –Ogunsakin

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 6, Tunde Ogunsakin has emphasized the need for cooperation amongst security agencies in the country. Ogunsakin said such cooperation would foster an informidable force that would stem the rise in organized criminal attacks on facilities of security operatives. He made the call during the visit by the Commander of NNS Victory, Calabar, Commodore M.C.L. Bobia to the Zone six Command of the Nigeria Police.

The Commodore, said the visit will foster a cordial working relationship between the Police and the Navy in Cross-Rivers state as well as to collaborate with the police in bringing to book criminals particularly the perpetrators of the Monday, June 15, attack on the Marine Police Division, Calabar by an unidentified armed group. He expressed his pleasure with the degree of professionalism with which the investigations are being handled.

In his response, the zone 6 Police chief commended Commodore Bobia for the visit and said that investigation into the unsavoury events at the marine Police division will become more enhanced owing to the superior capacity of the Navy in handling marine crimes. He urged other sister agencies to emulate the Navy.

AIG Ogunsakin also called for an immediate constitution of an inter- agency joint task force so as to sustain the rising tempo and make the society safer for the people and unsafe for criminals. The Joint Task Force will see to it that the creeks are combed of all criminal elements within them. AIG Ogunsakin then proceeded to visit the Marine Police Division where it was gathered that the assailants appeared with hand propelled grenade launchers, rocket launchers and multi-purpose guns in a prolonged attack that led to many injured and destruction of property. It would be recalled that Ogunsakin, during his time as Commissioner of Police, Rivers State formed an inter-agency task force which led to a drastic reduction of crime in the. state.
