Few months after the Inspector– General of Police Mr. Solomon Arase on assumption of office issued directives to the rank and file of the Police force, to desist from interfering in any land dispute, the Ewu Oloye and Gbosoro communities have petitioned the IGP alleging complicity of some policemen in their land matters. In a petition written on their behalf by their Solicitor A.G. Giwa – Amu and Company, they stated, that on June 4, a team of heavily armed policemen led by Babawale an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), attached to Nigeria Police; Zone 2 and Shola Akinyede of X Squad Lagos, escorted some armed thugs to invade their property and vast land known as Ewu Oloye and Gbosoro farmland.
They averred that to their consternation, the said police officers watched with keen interest as the thugs descended on their communities destroying their houses, assaulting their children while their women were severally raped. Consequent upon these wanton destruction, they said they lodged a complaint at the Ogijo Divisional Police Station where the Divisional Police officer Mr. Toyin Afolaogun promptly detailed three policemen for an on the spot assessment of what transpired. They said they were further shocked that in spite of the presence of the men from Ogijo Police Station including the ASP Babawale and Shola from Zone 2 and X Squad respectively, the said thugs inflicted machete cuts on them while some them received gun shots wounds.
As the overwhelmed men of Ogijo Police Division hurriedly left the scene of crime apparently to re-enforce, another round of orgy started as a new set of thugs in six commercial buses invaded and the attendant mayhem made the earlier attack a mere childs play and by the time they left, members of the community have broken limbs, heads, lacerated bodies, and women violated. The traditional ruler Chief Ogbara Afariogun was not spared as he was also robbed of the sum of N2,500,000 at gunpoint even as the thugs carted away his coral beads and other palace valuables and was also forced out of his palace against his will.
They questioned if the claims of ASP Babawale and Shola that they were in their community to investigate the veracity of a petition said to have been made against Mr, Nofiu Afariogun, it however did not justify the supervisory role they played when the thugs whom they came with threw decency to the winds as they totally desecrated their lands by raping their wives in the open glare of public.
They also questioned the motives of the police officers wading into a land that a court of competent jurisdiction in a Suit No. HSC/136/2005 – Chief Rasaki Animashaun V. Mukaila Oke German and others had on Monday the 5th of March 2015 awarded to them. They are therefore calling on the IGP to use his good office to bring the culprits to book and order an impartial and independent investigation as it seems that the Police Ogun State Command, Sagamu Area Command and the Ogijo Police Division appear helpless in the face of the brigandage caused
