In its determination for a secure and safe community,the Aerodrome GRA Homeowners and Residents Association, Samonda, Ibadan,over the weekend donated a patrol vehicle to the police Oyo State Command for effective community policing. The vehicle was received on behalf of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammed Katsina, by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of administration, Mr. Chris Maidama,
Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the association,Architect Kole Babalola, said the vehicle was donated with a view to entering a public-private- partnership (PPP) relationship with the state police command to improve police surveillance of Samonda environment, especially Aerodrome GRA.
The association, he promised, would maintain and fuel the vehicle for the police. In his words, “We strongly feel that this gesture will go a long way in supporting community policing within the immediate environment of Samonda and drastically reduce incidences of armed robbery within the vicinity.” Babalola, who was accompanied by notable members of the association including former Commissioner for Environment in the state, Alhaji Majekodunmi Aborode, noted that crime rate has reduced drastically in the state since the resumption of the CP, Katsina.
He lauded the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in charge of a special security outfit of the police command, Skynet Special Squad, Mr. Umar Dimka, and the entire police for their hard work, collaboration and resilience that led to reduction in crime rate in the state. Responding, the DCP, Mr. Maidama, thanked the association for the vehicle, describing the gesture as one of the good aspects of community policing. He promised that the vehicle would be used judiciously in combating crime.
