Banker Denied Bail Over N12m Theft

43-year-old manager of Skye bank, Mr. Fatai Aguntasolo, who was docked before an Akure Chief Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing N12m meant for the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of his bank has been denied bail till next hearing of the case.

The Court, presided by Mrs Olayinka Omole, ordered the remand of the accused in Olukuta Prison until the next hearing despite an application for bail by his counsel Mr Ajayi Adeolu, who urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.

He assured the court that his client would not jump bail if the application is granted. Besides, the lawyer reiterated his readiness to provide a credible and reliable surety who would stand for the accused person. The prosecutor however opposed the bail application on the ground of the nature of the charge and possibility of influencing the witnesses. The Magistrate, Omole, in her ruling, granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered that the accused person be remanded in Olukuta Prison custody. She adjourned the case to October 7, 2015.

The accused person is facing a charge of stealing and fraudulent conversion of N12m to his own personal use.

According to prosecution, the accused person committed the offence at Ido-Ekiti cash centre of Skye Bank Plc. under the Akure Regional Office, in Akure Magisterial District on July 8, 2015. The accused person however pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Ajibola Aderemi, prayed the court for an adjournment of the case, to enable him assemble his witnesses and study the case file.
